Charter E-001: Use VLC in a Windows environment to view videos. Videos would be used to share information between testing team members and can be created by image capture tools such as BB Test Assistant, Spector Soft or other similar technologies. Explore how VLC uses system memory and processor resources while viewing videos as compared with the same videos being viewed by Microsoft Media player. (choose most recent version available from Microsoft) Use videos between 1 and 5 minutes long of different formats including at least WMV, AVI. Use Perfmon to capture results. (csv format sampled every 5 seconds) Use Excel to generate graphs of the results. Found an ability to save to tsv not a csv, but the file is unable to be opened. After much research, talked with Rob and we discussed the right format. Ran two tests of comboPart1.wmv and created MP_VLC_WMV test.xls with graphs *** There does not appear to be an appreciable difference between the two when playing a WMV file Ran two tests of presentation.mpg and created MP_VLC_MPG test.xls with graphs *** With the MPG test, the Page Reads on Media Player are much lower (4 times less). Ran two tests of fishes.avi and created MP_VLC_AVI test.xls with graphs *** The AVI test actually seems to be more favorable for VLC, with slightly better memory management (6 MB vs 8 MB). ISSUES --------------------------- 1) To make a more sound conclusion, I want a little more time to analyze the results and do follow-up tests with more counters. BUGS ---------------------------
